The e-portfolio is a pretty significant tool as an IDS student. Despite the fact that it does take quite a bit of effort and work, ultimately not only is it rewarding, but it's necessary for your degree anyways! In terms of how the e-portfolio demonstrates your interdisciplinarity, it is what shows potential employers and the like how your focus areas come together, and what skills you have gained from the experience of earning your degree.
In terms of my own e-portfolio, I want to showcase both my artistic and academic achievements. As an artistic, it's always important to present your work in the most professional manner, while highlighting your skill and capability. Furthermore, I believe that the portfolio can be used to showcase my multifaceted nature to employers outside of the artistic field, that is, I can use pieces of evidence to show that I am also a capable writer.
I envision my e-Portfolio as a professional, albeit creative resume. Above anything else, I hope that my imagination and personality are conveyed in the most positive manner.
There are numerous things that can be used as evidence from my different classes. In terms of my art classes, I can post works created in past classes, or even show the development of ideas into art. For other courses, such as Humanities and Political Science, I can use research papers as evidence, once again to highlight my skills as a writer.
Peter Leiner on the E-Portfolio:
The E-portfolio is something that is very important because it demonstrates your various areas of interdisciplinarity. It does this by having you take pieces of work and skills you gained from various sources and ties them together. It allows you to hone in on your researching skills while demonstrating your writing skills. It puts an emphasis on real life and your personal future by allowing you to see what your options are within your major.
I personally envisioned my e-portfolio as a running representation of me. It should never be a concrete finished project but something I consistently work on to better myself. The part of it to me that is most important and I would hope stands out is my ability to communicate. In your e-portfolio I believe you should directly reach out to your future employers. The evidence you place in there should display your skills and talents and help separate you from others.
My e-portfolio as an IDS student will be helpful to me in many ways. Even though, as you stated above, it takes alot of work and effor, it will definilty be a helpful factor in whatever field i may decide to go in. I think it will help my future tremendously! One way I see it helping is showing my future employers how skilled and talented I am in the field of working with families and students. I have taken a variety of education cousres so to me, all my work involving education is extremly important.
ReplyDeleteThe audience i am thinking of using is any elementary school I apply to. Regardless of the grade that i get, the employers and especially the principal can see how creative and outgoing I am as a teacher, in a professional manner. The portfolio will help my audience in deciding whether or not i can be a potential educator at their school.
I envision my portfolio as a creative and professional way of presenting all my information and work. I hope that through my creativity my audience will see how hard I really work in the field of working with families and children. Showing who you are in any type of portfolio is very important. If one doesnt put in the effort of who they are, they their potential employers won't be able to see their true self.
I would love for my eportfolio to stand out because of one reason, I am a teacher. Being that I have been working with children since i was 13 years old, I have learned the true creative side of Jamie Waksman. With creativity comes uniqueness and that is something that is very vital to a portfolio such as this.
Lastly, there are many things I could use as evidence in my portfolio. All my papers, projects, and assignments will be very helpful as evidence. In terms of all my education courses, I can post different lesson plans and papers based n what I learned in class such as the development of children and learning along with teaching TESOL students. As for my other two areas, the same concept of papers, charts and other class activities would for sure draw attention to my skills in my areas of study.
Jamie,
ReplyDeleteThats really awesome it sounds like you have a great portfolio going and that it will definitely benefit you. I really like the idea of using lesson plans I have made in education classes as evidence. I really never thought of that because I am not going into the educational field. After reading your comments I really thought about how well lesson plans demonstrate organizational skills as well as creativity! I am definitely going to add them into my portfolio.
Peter
I can already see that the eportfolio is going to be a very helpful tool in the years to come. I think it is an excellent way to showcase my academic accomplishments alongside my personal individuality. Especially as an Interdisciplinary studies major, it is important to demonstrate how all of our areas of study can come together to form a cohesive focus. The eportfolio is a great way to do just that.
ReplyDeleteAt this point in my life, I see the eportfolio helping me the most to apply to graduate school and get internship opportunities. Hopefully my eportfolio will demonstrate my accomplishments as well as provide examples of my writing. I feel that the best way for me to stand out amongst others is to be creative with my ideas and showcase work that I am truly proud of.
As I am currently only a sophomore, I dont yet have a lot of evidence to showcase in my eportfolio. However, as the next few years of college progress, I will be able to add more and more, and hopefully create an impressive eportfolio. With this tool, I will be able to keep all of my works organized in one area and be able to refer to them whenever I like. I am very excited to start adding things to the portfolio and to build a solid representation of my capabilities and personal character.
Thank you Peter. I really do hope to design it like that. Lesson plans are very vital to an education student so hopeuflly it will all work out.
ReplyDeleteSamantha, as a sophmore you have you have alot to look foward to in putting things in your portfolio. The more the better! Even though I am a cornerstone student, I still would like to motivate you to continue working hard like all of us!!!!!
Mary, i really like how you presented your e-portfolio. As an art track I agree with you when showing your artistic ability. What type of artistic abilities have you shown in your portfolio?
ReplyDeleteSamantha,
ReplyDeleteI saw your post and the only thing that concerned me was that you said "hopefully" this is something you control it can happen if you want it to and it definitely should be something you choose to do. Use material that represents you and you will wreak the benefits of having your evidence in an organized manner.
Peter, thanks for the advice. You are correct, we can all make anything happen that we "hope" will, with dedication.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a better idea as to what the e-portfolio will do and how it will help me in the future. As an interdisciplinary student I can display my personal accomplishments along with my academic acomplishments. I will be going into the Marine Corps as an officer once I graduate UCF. I will more than likely be attending graduate school at the War College in Quantico Virginia.
ReplyDeleteI am excited about where my future is heading and I know that my e-portfolio will be a helpful tool in my endeavors wherever my career takes me.
I think the E-Portfolio is a great tool to help us organize and gather our thoughts. By doing so, it will help us get a clear direction towards our career path. My E-Portfolio will demonstrate my interdisciplinarity through the organized construction of each of my areas of study. My portfolio will showcase each area, while expressing my goals through each area of study.
ReplyDeleteThe audience I am thinking of using is my future employer. I hope that when I apply to work in a lawfirm, they will view my E-Portfolio and see my accomplishments and goals. Through this, they should be able to get a good idea of who I am, and hopefully extend a position to me.
I would like my E-Portfolio to be somewhat simple, like my personality. It will be unique, but in a way that really aids in expressing myself and what I stand for. It will still, however, showcase my accomplishments.
The evidence that will prove my vision will be my verbiage, as well as the presentation of my accomplishments. I look forward to really planning it out as I go along.
